This week's scripture for prayer & fasting comes from

Exodus 16:4, 13-15, and 31-34

4) Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people

shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk

in my law, or no.

13 )And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning

the dew lay round about the host.

14) And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small

round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.

15 )And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what

it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat.

31) And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and

the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

32) And Moses said, This is the thing which the Lord commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your

generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought

you forth from the land of Egypt.

33) And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before

the Lord, to be kept for your generations.

34) As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.

These scriptures talk about the bread from heaven (Manna) which the Lord supplied the Israelites with
as they complained while in the wilderness. God promised to meet their need for food in the wilderness.
The bread that God supplied was not something processed or a product from a bakery in the wilderness, it
came straight from heaven, right to where the people were. God makes clear that He supplies their daily
need for food, but they would have to go out and gather their bread every day. The Manna was a super-
natural gift from God and He supplied it for forty years!

Jesus instructs us the same way when He directs His disciples to pray, "Give us this day, our daily bread"
Sometimes we might find ourselves in wilderness situations where everything seems to be too hot, or dried
up. We may even feel unloved and even ignored. God may appear to be miles away and His promises even
further. But we have to stand on His promise that He will NEVER leave nor forsake us (Heb 13:5) We don't
need to get discouraged because even in the wilderness the Lord keeps His promises and meets our need for
bread from heaven. All we have to do is go out and get it. Just as our Sunday School lesson said in John 6:32-35
Moses didn't give you bread from heaven, but my Father gave you the true bread. For the bread of God is He
which came down from heaven and gave life to the world.

Jesus told Satan, while tempted in the wilderness (Matt 4:4) "That man shall not live by bread alone….." It takes
more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of the Word of God. It's not about the manifestation,
but about the presence of God! These are powerful scriptures. As you meditate on the scriptures this week,
ask yourself are you filling up on physical food or spiritual food, which is the true Bread of Life. Physical food
will satisfy a temporary craving, but the spiritual food that Jesus offers will give you eternal life.
